green it like you mean it

St. Patty’s day is fast approaching and there is no rest for revelers from Superbowl, Mardi Gras, and now the Irish Channel’s mega block party and parade.

Celebrate in style instead of relying on that same faded green tee you wear every year. The t-shirt gets a makeover from Repurposeful Punk

Show & Tell

Went to dinner and the Sip event at La Thai last night. Branch Out, a cute little eco-friendly shop in the Lower Garden District, hosted a trunk show. I purchased these sweet little dangle earrings made out of antique Mardi Gras beads. The girls from Branch Out told me Laura D’Arcangelo, the designer, found a stash of the beads in her grandmother’s attic and decided to re purpose them into something a bit more wearable. I love the concept of taking a little piece of New Orleans history and reinventing it.

The pair I bought are milky white, pink and black. The beads are of substantial weight but don’t feel heavy on my ear lobe and the handiwork is really great. All too often “handmade jewelry” equates amateurs churning out shoddy craftsmanship but these are really well made. At $12 a pair they would make a great gift or a guilt free treat for yourself.

Mardi Gras

I present to y’all Mardi Gras 2010! With all of our free time getting sucked into house buying and moving I was afraid that we wouldn’t really get a chance to pull our Mardi Gras costumes together. Due to time constraints and the  effort that went into our Halloween getups I needed to keep the sewing to a minimum. Fortunately we were able to pull together some pretty great looks.

Yay!

I’m going to apologize now for a lack of updates to Slow Southern Style. As of tomorrow I am closing on my 1st home (yay!) and between moving, setting up internet at the new address, and Mardi Gras I won’t have much time to make my usual fashionable posts. When things get back to normal expect more news, designer profiles, and other fun things thrown into the mix. As always I appreciate your comments on how to improve and I’d like everyone to take this time to let me know what you want to see more of when I come back.
