Fashion’s Night Out in New Orleans

Fashion’s Night Out was this Thursday at Saks Fifth Avenue and I was thrilled that Slow Southern Style was featured in the blogger lounge. The night was filled with DJs on all three floors, a fun fashion scavenger hunt, running into familiar faces, drooling over beautiful clothes, and lots of champagne.

Can I be honest with y’all here? I definitely pulled this outfit together in haste. The only reason I wore these loafers is because I didn’t have time to paint my toenails, one of the downfalls of only possessing open toe heels.

Chanel of Chanel Craves is without a doubt one of my favorite Southern Fashion Bloggers. She’s always so perfectly put together, pretty, and she laughs at my dumb jokes. Her boyfriend looked equally well put together as well!

 Speaking of Chanel….

Samantha from Feet First! Samantha did a guest post on Slow Southern Style so it was a real pleasure to finally meet her in person. This picture is a hoot, note that she is squatting and I’m standing on tip toes and she is still taller than me.

I finally met cutie pie Dalton of the Warehouse District and his mom. They were so nice!

Plenty of Marc Jacobs to ogle

Sweet Slow Southern Style reader Kasimu came out to Saks after hearing me talk about it on Twitter AND he was the best dressed gentleman of the night. I just love a guy that can sport a bow tie and a pocket square!

Big thanks to all of my friends that came to hang out, I had a blast chatting with y’all and hope to see each and every one of you again soon. For additional pictures from the evening be sure to check out the Facebook page.

closet overhaul new orleans stylist wardrobe consultation

Slow Southern Styling

After a few nice words of encouragement and a lot of support I’m proud to announce a new little venture I’m starting up, Slow Southern Styling.  Just think of me as your personal stylist for the New Orleans area.

My first client was Megan, a young entrepreneur who was looking to cull her closet and figure out how to freshen up what she already owns. Megan has a lot of basics, and by a lot I mean black leggings for days. She also had a lot of hand me downs clogging her closet and pieces she picked up at clothing swaps that were good but not good for her. I first assessed her entire wardrobe and yanked out what she didn’t need. Anything that wasn’t in good condition had to go, along with unnecessary multiples. Megan has some great pieces, like an enviable cardigan collection but she needed to sort the bad from the good.

Next we assessed what was left. She has great style but relies too heavily on basics so it just took a little convincing to get her to try wearing pieces in new ways. With my creative eye we were able to compose some great, easy outfits with items she already owns. Everything featured here came from her closet!

Megan took notes the entire time to make it easy to remember my suggestions. We made sure to figure out where she needs to fill in the gaps (more shoes!) and how to perk up her basics (better jewelry she’ll be excited to wear).

Interested in booking your own Slow Southern Styling session? I’m available by appointment on Fridays and Saturdays and can be reached at nolagurl{at}gmail{dot{com} if you’d like to learn more about the process and my package rates visit my Slow Southern Styling website. I’m looking forward to hearing from y’all soon!

Fall Favorites For Friday

If you’ve followed Slow Southern Style since the beginning you know I love doing themed weekly posts. Mannequin Monday, Tattoo Tuesdays, and my new weekly guest posts have been fun but now that we are in September I can’t stop thinking about my fall wardrobe and how I’m going to build upon what I already own. At the end of each week I’m going to introduce y’all to my Fall Favorites For Friday with a different theme for each post.

Color blocking has been talked about extensively all over the internet but this Diane Von Furstenburg dress deserves a nod. We all know it won’t cool down until the end of October so this dress can be worn as is then layered when the air turns crisp.

Color blocked DVF for less than $200!
Paper bag waists are another big trend, this one in a fun tangerine with a high waist. I like mixing orange with charcoal grey to avoid looking like I’m celebrating Halloween early.

At this time of year I also start riding my bike more  but just because I’m on two wheels doesn’t mean I want to look like a bike messenger all the time.  This cross body bag is dressy enough to bring to a nice dinner and the burnt orange is an interesting alternative to brown.

While wide leg jeans are making a comeback for fall it’s not surprising that the sexy secretary look is gaining ground again. Avoid looking frumpy by keeping the blouse slightly sheer for an alluring look.

So what do you think of the trends for fall? What are you excited to wear when the weather cools off a bit?

Windows and Wedding Belles

Split second decisions are made when we are casually strolling down the street shopping or zipping by in our cars. If a storefront doesn’t catch our eye we simply might never wander in so it is vital to have curb appeal, to borrow a real estate term. Wedding Belles and The Stationer are taking a fun and fresh approach to their window dressing by handing over the reigns to one lucky aspiring visual merchandiser in their first ever window design contest.

In order to enter submit 4 sketches and a 100 word description of your vision by 9/9. The winner will be contacted on 9/10 and must be able to install their design by 9/18. In addition to having bragging rights for designing the prettiest window on Magazine Street the winner will also get a gift card of their choice and Wedding Belles will cover their materials up to $300. Submit via email netta@sparklebc.com or by drop off your sketches at the store.
